Chadian police repress anti-French demonstration in N’Djamena


N’DJAMENA, May 14 (Reuters) – Chadian police cracked down on a protest on Saturday as several hundred people took to the streets in the capital N’Djamena and other towns to express their hostility towards France .

Organized by the Wakit Tamma organization, these rallies were intended to denounce the support given by France to the military transition council which has held the reins of power since the death of President Idriss Déby.

“We are demonstrating against France for its support for the transitional military council,” Mahmoud Moussa, a high school teacher in the Chadian capital, told Reuters.

A spokesperson for the interim government could not be reached, nor could the French embassy.

Some demonstrators ransacked several gas stations belonging to the French TotalEnergies

TTEF.PA. Some burned French flags while a Russian flag was raised in the center of N’Djamena.
