Champions League – Salzburg and the late riser puzzle

Football champions Red Bull Salzburg lost 0-2 in the Champions League duel against Real Sociedad. The home team remained far below expectations in the first half. “Krone” sports psychologist Fabio Richlan explained how this could happen.

Robbery-like attacks are part of the DNA of Red Bull football. In the Champions League game against Real Sociedad, however, it was the Basques who surprised Salzburg. The Struber team slept through the first half and only woke up after the break. The “Krone” got to the bottom of the “late riser puzzle” among the Bulls and asked the renowned sports psychologist Fabio Richlan how this could happen. “In this case you also have to recognize the strength of the opponent, who did it very well. If you start the game badly like Salzburg did, it can happen that the whole team gets infected and a feeling of insecurity creeps in.”It was difficult for coach Gerhard Struber to intervene in the game. “You don’t come up with a plan in five minutes. It is important to find the balance between perseverance and flexibility. That’s a big challenge.” Richlan is confident about the next premier class game against last year’s finalists Inter Milan (October 24th): “It could look completely different there. The coach and his staff are good and will learn the right lessons.”
