After the scandal caused by the Negreira affair, UEFA plans to exclude FC Barcelona from all European competitions next season.

FC Barcelona is not off the hook. The Spanish media El Confidencial reports that the Negreira affair concerning the payment of more than seven million euros to Enriquez Negreira, then vice-president of the Technical Committee for Referees (CTA), could have serious consequences for the Catalan club in European Cup. UEFA would closely follow the progress of the investigation and could take action. The institution has sent a letter to the Spanish Federation to request more complete information on the matter.

UEFA may declare FC Barcelona as “ineligible to participate in European competitions for next season”. The club, on track to win La Liga and qualify for C1, would find itself in a delicate situation. In the grip of substantial economic concerns, the Catalans can hardly afford to ignore the financial allocations granted by UEFA for participation in the most prestigious of European competitions.
