Manuka honey comes from New Zealand. Bees collect the flower nectar of the Manuka bush and the South Sea myrtle, which forms the basis for honey. Since the plants only thrive in New Zealand’s climate, the honey is correspondingly valuable and special.
For me, an important factor is above all the health aspect: Manuka honey is full of good ingredients such as methylglyoxal (MGO), which can reduce microbial infections and even help with tissue healing. Researchers from Great Britain came to these results in the 2018 study “Antibacterial activity of Manuka honey and its components: An overview”.
A special feature of “liquid gold” is, above all, its taste. It’s hard to describe, but Manuka honey tastes much more intense but less artificial than many normal types of honey. For me, that was reason enough to integrate Manuka honey into my breakfast. I only use other honey, if at all, to sweeten dishes.
