Chaos provoke interruption – Lucerne’s Abubakar marks the boss in the basement duel – Sport

  • Lucerne beat Lausanne 2-1 away in the 23rd round of the Super League.
  • Asumah Abubakar became the match winner for Lucerne with 2 goals.
  • In the 76th minute, the referee temporarily interrupted the game because of fireworks flying from the Lausanne fan sector.
  • In the other games on Sunday, St. Gallen defeats the Grasshoppers, Basel loses away to FC Zurich.

After just 106 seconds, the Lausanne team had to concede a goal and thus an early shock: Lucerne’s Mohamed Dräger took advantage of the non-existent disruptive work of the Romands and served goalscorer Asumah Abubakar. Coach Mario Frick’s team has never celebrated before this season.

Lausanne remains in shock

The Lausanne team had to digest the early failure of their own defense in the well-filled Stade de la Tuilière at home. While the hosts were doing this, Luzern continued to play dominantly and had another big chance in the 16th minute – Abubakar missed the goal from close range.

After half an hour, the western Swiss still created space and chances: Hicham Mahou’s sprint over half the field showed once again that Lausanne has the weakest offensive in the Super League – his finish in the direction of Lucerne goalie Marius Müller was too good.

French-speaking Switzerland are getting stronger, Abubakar scores again

Lucerne coach Frick did not seem to like what he saw after the half-time break: Lausanne’s Brahima Ouattara and Marvin Spielmann scored several times and gave their team a boost. Frick’s consequence: midfield strategist Christian Gentner should give the Lucerne game new impetus in the final phase.

The presence of the warmed-up German seemed to bear fruit even before he came on: Abubakar scored his second goal of the day in the 72nd minute. His header meant the preliminary decision, but that didn’t mean the goals were over in Lausanne: In the 11th minute of added time, Stjepan Kukuruzovic scored the Vaud consolation goal with a penalty.

Game stopped after 76 minutes

Because a quarter of an hour before the end pyrotechnic materials had flown from the Lausanne fan sector and parts of it had presumably hit Lucerne’s goalie Marius Müller in the head, referee Fedayi San interrupted the game. After about 10 minutes, during which the teams had retreated to the catacombs, play resumed.

After the recent victory over Lausanne, the “lights” in the relegation battle continue to breathe. With 18 points under their belt, Lucerne’s lead over Lausanne at the bottom of the table has increased to 6 points. Lausanne’s situation, on the other hand, is becoming more and more serious: Coach Alain Casanova’s team remained without points in the second half of the season.

Here’s how to proceed

Both teams will be back in action in the Super League next Wednesday. Lausanne are guests in Sion, kick-off is at 6 p.m. The Lucerne hosts FC Zurich, the leaders of the table. SRF will broadcast the game live from Lucerne from 8:10 p.m.
