Charges against Orpea: the government will determine whether to open an investigation

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced on Tuesday that he had contacted the operator of retirement homes Orpea to determine whether to initiate an investigation by the general inspectorate linked to the accusations of which the group is the subject.

“I asked the minister delegate in charge of autonomy, Brigitte Bourguignon, to immediately seize the group so that answers can be provided,” Olivier Véran told the National Assembly.

“In the light of these conclusions, I will see if it is necessary to initiate an investigation by the general inspectorate on the whole group to check what are the procedures in force and the conditions under which they take care of the residents. “, continued the minister.

Orpea faces accusations of a book to be published on Wednesday, entitled “Les Fossoyeurs”, extracts from which were published by Le Monde on Monday, causing the company’s stock to fall. The group strongly denied these accusations and seized their lawyers.

Olivier Véran was not aware of the book but only of the extracts reported by Le Monde. The minister judged that these good sheets reported “serious allegations”.

At 3:50 p.m., Orpea shares fell 16.2% after resuming trading in the middle of the day on Tuesday. The quotation of the title was suspended since 12:45 am Monday, at the request of the company, while the value fell by more than 16%.
