The spirit of Elizabeth II accompanied her son. This Friday, September 9, the day after His Majesty’s death, King Charles III addressed the nation for the first time. At the Saint-James Palace, he spoke for long minutes to honor the memory of his “beloved mom”. “My beloved mother was an inspiration, an example for me and all my family, he began. Queen Elizabeth has lived a good life.” For his first speech as sovereign, King Charles III paid attention to detail. As his mother had already done after the death of her husband, Prince Philip, he had put a picture of Her Majesty on her desk. On this one, Elizabeth II wore a colorful suit, as she was used to, as well as a hat on which was a red flower.
“We owe her the most sincere debt a family can owe to her mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example.said King Charles III, looking serious. In addition to the personal grief that my whole family feels, we also share with so many of you in the United Kingdom, in all the countries where the Queen was Head of State, in the Commonwealth and across the world, a deep feeling of gratitude. For more than 70 years during which my mother, as Queen, served the people of so many nations.” King Charles III then spoke of the sacrifices made by his mother during her reign. “The affection, admiration and respect she inspired became the hallmark of her reign”he added.

“And, as every member of my family can attest, she combined those qualities with warmth, humor and an unerring ability to always see the best in people,” added King Charles III, who presented himself more as a son than a sovereign. After confirming that Prince William and Kate Middleton were becoming Prince and Princess of Wales and having had a tender thought for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the sovereign spoke to his mother: “To my darling mum, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear dad, I just want to say this: thank you. Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and the family of nations you have served so diligence during all these years. I hope that troops of angels will accompany you in your sleep”.
