Princess Diana’s brother gets divorced

Charles and Karen Spencer are getting a divorce: “It is infinitely sad,” said the brother of the late Princess Diana.
Charles Spencer (60) is divorcing his wife Karen Spencer (52) after almost 13 years of marriage. The 9th Earl Spencer and younger brother of the late Princess Diana (1961-1997) confirmed the separation from his third wife to “The Mail on Sunday”. “It’s incredibly sad,” the 60-year-old told the newspaper. “I just want to devote myself to all my children and grandchildren and wish Karen all the best for the future.”

The paper also reported that problems arose between the two while working on his memoirs “A Very Private School.” The book was published in the spring of this year. The couple reportedly announced their separation a few weeks ago to the staff at Althorp House, the ancestral home of the Spencer family.
Charles Spencer and the Canadian entrepreneur and philanthropist were married on June 18, 2011 at Althorp House, just two months after Spencer’s nephew, heir to the throne Prince William (41), and Princess Kate (42). The two are said to have met in Los Angeles the year before. Charles and Karen Spencer have a twelve-year-old daughter together named Charlotte Diana, whose middle name is said to be reminiscent of Princess Diana.

Both also brought children into the marriage: Karen Spencer has two older daughters from her previous marriage to Hollywood producer Mark Gordon (67, “Saving Private Ryan”), which lasted from 1997 to 2003. Charles Spencer has four children with his first wife, Victoria Lockwood (59), with whom he was married from 1989 to 1997, and two children with his second wife, Caroline Freud (57). The aristocratic author, journalist and broadcaster was married to her from 2001 to 2007.
