Charli D’Amelio: Influencer gets Shitstorm

It should be a new, cool video format. But a dinner with her family cost influencer Charli D’Amelio a lot of followers.

She is only 16 years old and already the biggest star on the social media platform TikTok: the American Charli D’Amelio. 100 million followers regularly follow their posts. With a new video format in which she and her family welcomed a guest for dinner, she wanted to get even more people excited about herself. But that backfired mightily.

What happened?

It was actually supposed to be a nice meal in good company, but in the end many viewers only asked themselves: What's wrong with Charli and her sister Dixie? Although they get their food served by a professional chef, the two girls just misbehave. They make faces, ape the cook and poke listlessly at their food. The highlight: Dixie jumps up theatrically because she has tried a snail and wants to throw up.

The guest of the evening, YouTuber James Charles, tries again and again to save the situation. The parents are also visibly embarrassed by the way their daughters behave.

Many followers are horrified. They comment that the two sisters behave disrespectfully towards the cook and have no other manners either. For example, a user on Twitter wrote: "Be grateful for your food. You had a professional cook – so don't ask for Chicken McNuggets!"

Another says: "I am sad that two young girls don't convey any values other than being silly."

1 million followers gone

Shortly after the video was published, Charli lost a million followers. During the meal, she wished so much that her number of followers would rise to over 100,000 million. It should comfort her that she has now made it. Because a shit storm always means a lot of attention.

In a tearful TikTok video, the 16-year-old explains that the bad comments mainly hurt. She says she has been misunderstood and is just a human being hurt by hostility.

Apart from the fact that insults are never okay, the reactions of the audience were apparently a reminder for Charli and Dixie. The next time they are sure to think carefully about how to behave at the dining table – at least when the camera is there …
