Country star Charlie Daniels died at the age of 83. The singer, guitarist and violinist died after a stroke in a clinic in the state of Tennessee. The US portal "Page Six" reports, citing its spokesman.

Throughout his career Daniels has worked with music greats such as Bob Dylan (79, "Rough And Rowdy Ways"), Elvis Presley (1935-1977) and Leonard Cohen (1934-2016). His biggest hit was the song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" from 1979, for which he was awarded a Grammy. Daniels, born in North Carolina in 1936, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
