Charlotte Gainsbourg, her relationship with her son Ben Attal marked by conflicts: “We were at war”

At just 26 years old, Ben Attal is starting to make a name for himself in the world of the 7th art. The one who initially launched into the culinary world is multiplying his projects in front of the camera. An industry in which his famous parents Yvan Attal and Charlotte Gainsbourg have distinguished themselves for several decades. On the side of his father, Ben Attal can boast of being related to Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, his grandparents who are now deceased. Moreover, he did not always have a good image of his grandfather, whom he always hated and whom he found “rude, disgusting, alcoholic.”

Having recently had the honor of opposite Fanny Ardant and other big names in cinema in the film Kings of the track by Thierry Klifa, in theaters on March 13, Ben Attal spoke at length with our colleagues from the magazine Mr Le World. The opportunity for him to speak transparently about his relationships with his clan. Notably those with his mother whom he supports to this day in the organization of the Maison Gainsbourg museum dedicated to his illustrious ancestor, rue de Verneuil in Paris, as deputy director.

Not so simple relationships with Charlotte Gainsbourg

Very often, Charlotte Gainsbourg and her eldest see each other at the family home. If good humor and lightness are present, this has not always been the case: “For years we were at war“, recognized Ben Attal. “And there, we see each other every day, it’s funny“. With humor, Jordane Crantelle’s husband also slipped: “She doesn’t even pick up when I call her anymore because she knows I’m going to talk to her about work“.

During the interview, Lou Doillon’s nephew revealed that he has always “dreamed of being an actor“: “But I was ashamed to admit it”, Ben Attal said with sincerity. When he watches a feature film, this moment is almost sacred to him. Ritual that he learned to do with those around him: “I grew up in a family where the rules are unspoken“, the popular actor revealed. “When you watch a movie, you don’t go pee, you don’t go get cigarettes, you don’t look at your phone, you shut up, you start and you finish“. There is no question of breaking this golden rule.
