Obelix of the celebrity press, she fell into it when she was little and never really left the pot. His favorite pastime? Scour the social networks of stars to find clues about breakups or new couples still kept secret.

Almost seven months after the death of Jane Birkin, which occurred on July 16, 2023, her friends, singers and her daughters Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon paid tribute to her memory on the stage of the Olympia. A date that she was originally supposed to honor and that her entourage maintained for a final tribute.

This weekend had a very special taste for Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon. Jane Birkin’s two daughters took the stage at the Olympia hand in hand this Saturday, February 3, 2024. This meeting was originally not really planned. At least, not for them. This date was the one Jane Birkin had chosen as part of her tour to take over one of the most legendary rooms in the capital. Unfortunately, she did not have time to honor him, the artist having died on July 16, 2023, at the age of 76. A second stroke which was fatal to him.

A few days later, Jane Birkin’s funeral took place in the Saint-Roch church in Paris. An event attended by all the stars of song and cinema and where Jane Birkin’s clan showed itself to be more united than Never. We obviously saw Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon, devastated, taking each other’s hands and comforting each other. Not far from them, their loved ones, including Stéphane Manel, Lou’s companion, Yvan Attal, Charlotte Gainsbourg’s love, as well as their three children Ben, Alice and Jo. Marlowe, eldest son of Lou Doillon, was also there as was Roman de Kermadec, the son of the late Kate Barry, the daughter of Jane Birkin, who died in December 2013.

The Olympia date being very important for Jane Birkin, her daughters Charlotte and Lou therefore decided to maintain it. Of course, it was not their mother who went on stage, but the entire singing family and her friends in the industry who paid tribute to her. Impossible for Charlotte and Lou not to honor this appointment. It was therefore both dressed in black, very moved, hand in hand that they faced this new ordeal to salute one last time in public the memory of their dear mother. As for the profit, it was to Restos du coeur that they were donated.

Images of this exceptional concert were revealed on the web by Lou Doillon on Instagram in particular (see the slideshow). Jane Birkin’s greatest titles were covered by her daughters, but also by Vanessa Paradis, Étienne Daho, with whom she collaborated on her last album, but also Sandrine Kiberlain, Fanny Ardant, Catherine Ringer, Thomas Dutronc, Eddy de Pretto, Miossec, or even Arthur H, Carla Bruni or Marion Cotillard.

Very close to Jane Birkin until the end, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon sang together for their mother. They were notably featured on the song Quelle, the most moving moment of the evening according to spectators. Charlotte Gainsbourg performed for her part Ballad of Melody Nelson, Ah Melody And For what. Lou Doillon stood out on the titles Waltz of Melody, The Mansion And Catch me if you can. She also wanted to thank everyone who had contributed to this wonderful evening for “send a beam of love“to their mother:”How proud I am, how proud we are, Charlotte and I, of this tribute“, she wrote. “Mom had to do this Olympia, and so we did it, with her. Thanks to Etienne Daho and Jean-Louis Piérot for having carried this last record and this last tour of Jane Birkin. Thank you to the immense talent and generosity of everyone who came to bear this tribute, Yvan Attal for his very very beautiful presentation. […] Thanks to Muriel, my manager, for these weeks of organization… to Stéphane, to my children, to my entire private and professional team, for supporting me in this very special exercise.

To all those who did not have the chance to participate, see you on March 9 on France Inter for a full broadcast.
