ChatGPT continues to impress, surprise, and could well bring about a profound transformation of our society. It can range from very specific areas such as video games, or the creation of TikTok content. But today, we’re talking about something you probably consume every day: tech news!

Is ChatGPT able to write, as qualitatively as a human, a news article on tech?

Finding a subject is not for now

Here, we are lazy, so we don’t want to work at all, ChatGPT has to do everything for us (it’s ironic of course). We will start by asking him to find us a topical subject. We shouldn’t give him everything either, he can manage on his own! Let’s start then by asking him to give us a tech news topic for May 4, 2023. In advance, he is supposed to tell us that he is not able to do this, since he does not have real-time data.

Surprisingly enough, it does not indicate a refusal right away. On the contrary, he comes up with topic ideas, but these are more files than current affairs. Especially since they are not at all related to the news of the day. I therefore ask him why he indicates such results.

Asking him why they are trying to release tech news when he only has data from 2021, he admits his fault. And from there, we understand that he simply extrapolated data, rather than relying on reality.

A concession: give him the subject

So I’m going to have to make a concession in the non-work that I wanted: find him a subject. That’s good, a leak reveals the possible design that the next Galaxy Z Flip 5 would offer for its external screen. This is the kind of topic that are quite simplistic, and which will thus test one’s writing skills. Rather than just giving him basic information on the subject, we will ask him for an angle on the subject.

ChatGPT starts by giving us all the content of the article. However, it lacks structure, there is no title apart from the general title. It must therefore be helped to structure itself to generate a typical article that an editor could have written.

A very successful final version for ChatGPT

With the latest version of the prompt, to ask him to structure, we find an article of very good quality to tell the truth. The structure is therefore good, it is quite normal given that it was asked. But in addition, in his remarks, he adds nuance.

However, we could have gone further, using image generation for example. It would make it possible to illustrate the article, without having to use images to download… By adding a little automation via the WordPress API, it would also have been possible to do this automatically, by simply sending the prompt, and the article could have posted itself.
