Have you ever stumbled across a chicken god on vacation? No? Maybe you've seen one on the beach before and didn't notice! We explain what a chicken god is and what you can do with it here!

Chicken God – What is the meaning of the stone?

Behind the strange name Chicken God is nothing more than Flint with a hole (or several holes), which is why they are sometimes called hole stones. The flint is a silica rock from Jurassic and Cretaceous deposits. Weapons were made from flint as early as the Stone Age, and they were also used to make fires.

The flint is particularly noticeable due to its dark and shiny color with white discoloration. Red flints are primarily found on Helgoland and are therefore also called Helgoland diamonds! The hole in these bulbs is created by weathered chalk deposits.

Myths about the chicken god

The popular souvenir from the sea is considered a lucky charm (if the hole was created naturally!). Why? There are various myths surrounding the chicken god. According to Duden Online, according to Russian popular belief, the hanging stone in the chicken coop keep evil spirits away and so "promote the fertility of animals and protect them from illness and evil." The fact that this should bring good luck to people only developed over time.

In English they are also called "flint" or "adder stone". In the Celtic belief, it was assumed that in summer they were formed by air bubbles from the mouth of a snake (English: adder), then hardened down their backs and that the resulting ring was worn as an amulet.
