BEIJING (Reuters) – Manufacturing activity in China grew in December at its highest pace in six months, buoyed by an acceleration in production and easing inflationary pressures, the results of a private survey released Tuesday show, but the state of the labor market has fueled the uncertainties.

The manufacturing PMI index calculated by Caixin / Markit stood last month at 50.9, a peak since June 2021, after 49.9 in November. The consensus stood at 50, the threshold between contraction and expansion of activity.

According to the survey, industrial production grew in December at an unprecedented rate in a year, as the Chinese government took steps to boost the supply of raw materials and stabilize prices, the surge weighing on industrial companies.

But it also shows that new export orders declined again, albeit at a slower pace than in November, while an employment index remained in negative territory to settle at a lower level. since last February.
