China: The Minister of Commerce met with the leaders of Apple and Hynix

SHANGHAI (Reuters) – Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met with executives of Apple and SK Hynix Inc., the ministry said on Saturday, ahead of several major conferences expected in the coming week.

In meetings Friday with Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, and Kwak Noh-Jung, president of Hynix, Wang Wentao discussed the development of technology companies in China, the ministry said in a statement.

Several business leaders are currently in China for several conferences scheduled from Sunday to Friday, including the China Economic Development Forum and the Boao Forum for Asia.

Tim Cook opened a new Apple store in Shanghai on Thursday, as the phone maker faces a slowdown in its iPhone sales in China due to increased competition from domestic rivals such as Huawei.
