In Europe, the Geely subsidiary relies on a network of members who sublet their “made in China” cars in order to reduce the cost of use.
Neither quite a car manufacturer, nor really a car rental company. Lynk & Co, a subsidiary of Chinese Geely and Volvo, is seeking to find a place in Europe. The idea of Alain Visser, its founder, a former executive of Volvo? Convince car owners to switch to sharing by providing them with all the tools to do so, starting with a car. The company markets a single model: 01, a rechargeable hybrid SUV branded Lynk & Co, the twin of Volvo’s XC 40, both made in China.
The customer who wishes to use this car, offered in black or blue, pays 550 euros each month. This amount includes insurance, maintenance with the possibility of stopping the contract at any time. Thanks to an app, he can rent it to all “members” of the Lynk & Co community – including simple borrowers – for a price that he will have set himself. A way to reduce the monthly payment, a bit like on Airbnb for accommodation.
