NVIDIA is celebrating right now, with titanic orders coming in from China’s biggest tech players.
The issue of fleas is becoming more and more sensitive in the world as the United States increases its pressure on the Middle Kingdom. Enough to push the famous BATX, the Chinese equivalent of GAFAM, to make very (very) large stocks!
Nearly 5 billion dollars of order
The decisions taken by the American administration to reduce the access of Chinese companies to the best chips are working, if we look at the runaway of the latter. Indeed, according to information from FinancialTimesBaidu, Tencent, Alibaba and ByteDance (TikTok) would have sent extremely large orders for chips produced by NVIDIA.
For deliveries in 2023 alone, orders from Chinese companies would represent some 100,000 units, for a total value of $1 billion. This is just the start, as chip orders for delivery in 2024 are four times larger, with an estimated value of $4 billion.
An act of caution?
The models that will be delivered are the A800, less powerful chips than the A100 and H100 versions, already banned from export by the American administration. These A800 chips, used in the field of artificial intelligence, allow NVIDIA to continue to trade with its very wealthy Chinese contractors while respecting the current rules enacted by Washington. And it is precisely the aggressive attitude of Joe Biden’s teams that has surely pushed for these orders.
Indeed, a new executive order was issued this week that increased export bans on U.S. technologies in quantum computers, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors. In this context, the major Chinese companies certainly wanted to take the lead and anticipate the continuation of a trade war between the two world heavyweights which could only be in its infancy.
