Chosen at random – attempted murder of Grazerin at the delicatessen counter

A 68-year-old girl from Graz stood unsuspecting at the delicatessen counter of a supermarket on Monday afternoon when she was suddenly attacked by a total stranger with a glass bottle and seriously injured! Witnesses and employees came to the aid of the woman, according to the police, her life should not be in danger. The perpetrator (34) is being investigated for attempted murder.

This act triggers an oppressive feeling because it could have happened to anyone. The 34-year-old Croat without a permanent residence chose his victim in the supermarket on Volksgartenstrasse in Graz’s Lend district at random!

At around 3 p.m. he pulled a beer glass bottle he had brought with him out of his coat pocket and attacked the 68-year-old from Graz in the area of ​​the delicatessen counter. He hit his victim from behind several times with the broken bottle. Witnesses and staff reacted quickly, taking the woman to safety and holding the man until the police arrived.

No mortal danger
The 68-year-old suffered cuts on the head and neck. Rescue workers from the Red Cross brought them to the UKH Graz. According to current knowledge, there is no danger to life. Murder investigators and crime scene officials from the Styrian State Criminal Police Office have started the investigation.

The interrogation of the Croat is already under way. The perpetrator and the victim were not known to each other. In an initial questioning, the man stated that he wanted to kill a person. The police considered a mental impairment of the 34-year-old. The result of the alcohol test is still pending. The branch concerned is blocked until further notice. The crisis intervention team is also on duty.
