Ultravox bassist dies at the age of 71

British musician Chris Cross has died. He became famous as the bassist for the London band Ultravox.
Chris Cross (1952-2024), real name Christopher Allen, is dead. The British musician, who became known as the bassist of the new wave band Ultravox, has died at the age of 71. His former bandmate Midge Ure (70) confirmed this. According to media reports, the bassist died on March 25th. The cause of death is not yet known.

“Chris Allen. We worked together, we played together, we made music together and made videos together,” writes Ure in a post on Instagram. The two were immediately friends and “Ultravox comrades” and even after many years apart, “we managed to pick up where we left off as if the years in between had never existed.”
The late bassist was the glue that held the band together, writes Ure. “You were the logic in the madness and the madness in our lives. It was great knowing you and growing with you. You are loved and missed, old friend.”
Chris Cross was there from the start
Cross was one of the founding members of Ultravox. The band was founded in London in 1974 and was world-famous for hits such as “Dacing With Tears in My Eyes” and “Vienna”, which the bassist also co-wrote. The group split up at the end of the 1980s. However, in 2009, the musicians reunited for a reunion tour and released the studio album “Brilliant” in 2012.
