Slowly but surely, Chris O’Neill seems to be getting used to his future life in Sweden: With the upcoming move to Madeleine’s home country, he is likely to get even closer to her family – especially Queen Silvia.

Since his wedding with Princess Madeleine, 49, Chris O’Neill, 41, preferred to stay in the background in the royal family. He also rejected the title of prince that would come to him through his marriage. Until now, the small family lived in Florida, far away from Madeleine’s Scandinavian homeland. But that is set to change with a move to Sweden in 2024 – and in the last few weeks O’Neill in particular seems to have prepared for his new phase of life at the side of the royal family.

Chris O’Neill: Honest words about relationship with Queen Silvia

As his mother-in-law, Queen Silvia, 79, has known the American entrepreneur for years. After his future move to Sweden, the two are likely to meet more often – after all, Madeleine and Chris want to settle in Stockholm, at least geographically close to the royal family. If O’Neill’s public reticence in recent years gave rise to the feeling that he had a rather cold relationship with the royal couple, his words about Queen Silvia speak a completely different language – literally.

“Madeleine’s parents are the most generous people there are,” enthused Chris in an interview with “Expressen” in 2015. “They are lovely and have welcomed me into their family in a fantastic way. I am very grateful that I was able to get to know her.”

Queen Silvia is a big fan of son-in-law Chris

In his book “Madeleine – Princess Private”, author and journalist Johan T. Lindwall writes about the beginnings of the relationship between Chris O’Neill and Queen Silvia. She would have met her future son-in-law for the first time in New York. And she was immediately enthusiastic about him: “She fell in love with the good-natured Chris,” the Swedish website “Svensk Dam” quotes from the book.

Surprising words from the Queen are also quoted: “Our future son-in-law is such a nice person. He is personable and giving [Madeleine] Warmth.” Silvia was convinced from the beginning that Chris would give his Madeleine “the support she needs. […] A nice and pleasant person.”
