Christian Rach: Success and fame "didn't spoil him"

TV chef Christian Rach has always stayed on the floor despite his success on television. He is "not rich but carefree," he says.

Christian Rach (63, "Besser Essen") has been on TV since 2005. But the successes, which the star chef especially celebrated with his RTL program "Rach, the restaurant tester", and the fame never went to his head. Television "didn't spoil him," Rach said in an interview with "Bild am Sonntag".

"I think I've stayed pretty normal and touchable," Rach said. He himself had not "created" the image of the brutally honest critic. He was never put on: "I am like that." But Rach apparently didn't just stay on the ground, even for the post-work phase, Rach made provisions: "I started saving money right after I founded my business in 1988/89 and paid into private insurance," explains Rach.

Pension schemes instead of expensive cars

Since Rach had always been self-employed, he would not receive a state pension. Foresighted, he therefore preferred to invest in "sensible provisions" instead of buying expensive cars. Today he has no debts and is otherwise quite satisfied: "Not rich, but carefree – I'm really good," said Rach.
