Christophe Bchu wins the attribution of negotiations for COP29

The Minister of Ecological Transition Christophe Béchu obtained the right to take care of the climate negotiations for COP29 after discussing it with the Minister of the Economy, a distribution which must still be confirmed by Matignon, indicated Saturday to the AFP their respective offices.

Discussions for the COPs, the UN climate conferences, were entrusted in the previous government to the Minister of Energy Transition Agns Pannier-Runacher.

But Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, recovered the energy portfolio thanks to the recent reshuffle. Decrees of attribution must clarify in the coming days the distribution of tasks between the various ministries.

The question of who will represent France in the negotiations for COP29 scheduled for next November in Baku, Azerbadjan, was discussed between the teams of Bruno Le Maire and Christophe Bchu and they agreed on Friday evening that this mission the latter returns, reported Le Figaro.

The award decrees currently being drafted

Christophe Bchu’s office confirmed this information by specifying that the award decrees are being drafted and that the final decision rests with Matignon. Bruno Le Maire’s office also confirmed the discussion between the two ministers and their agreement on this subject.
