After the 7 Oscars won by “Oppenheimer”, the question of Christopher Nolan’s next film arises. And the rumor of a film adaptation of the series “The Prisoner” resurfaces.
Seven Oscars (including two personally, those for Best Film and Best Direction) to conclude a marathon that began a little less than a year ago. This Sunday, March 10, the Oppenheimer journey ended in the most beautiful way for Christopher Nolan, who has earned the right to breathe.
But that would be poor knowledge of the Internet, which immediately wants to know what the British director’s thirteenth feature film will be. And Variety claims that two options would be weighed, the first being a remake of the TV series The Prisoner.
A project abandoned in 2009
Broadcast between 1967 and 1968, the series features a British secret agent (Patrick McGoohan) who, when he tries to resign, is kidnapped by a mysterious group who lock him up in the no less strange “Village”from which he will try to escape.
Espionage, manipulation, mysteries, secrets, thriller, paranoia, altered reality, science fiction… It is not difficult to see how the story could please Christopher Nolan. And the latter was already attached to a film project in 2009… before the mini-series remake carried by Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen made it fall by the wayside.
Will it resurface fifteen years later? This is what Variety suggests, with one caveat: a source which is reduced to “some say that”, which is a bit light. Especially since the main person concerned had spoken to them, in November 2023, about this adaptation for which he had not been able to complete the script.
Still according to the American media, the other option would be for Christopher Nolan to tackle writing a new script now that the awards season is over. Without the slightest indication on the subject, which the main person concerned is perhaps the only one to know to date. With his wife and producer Emma Thomas, also an Oscar winner a few days ago.
The Web being what it is, it would also not be surprising to see the James Bond rumor resurface when Christopher Nolan himself put an end to it last November.
Three years between each film
But the most likely hypothesis, to date, is that we need to be patient. Against a filmmaker who has let three years pass between each release since that of Interstellar in 2014.
If today he has to be overwhelmed by proposals, and could even more easily succeed in imposing his conditions, buoyed by the public and critical success of Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan might simply want to take his time. Which is not one of his favorite themes for nothing.
