Google seems to be working on a feature that could make Chrome more interesting in the months to come.

Some time after revealing that it was working on a feature to quickly remove an embarrassing search, now the American giant would like to extend Picture-in-Picture to its entire browser.

Picture-in-Picture: To Infinity and Beyond

Over the years, more and more people have become accustomed to multitasking while surfing the web. And with this in mind, the Picture-in-Picture mode can be very practical. This allows, in the words of the Mountain View firm, ” watch videos in a floating window so you can keep tabs on what you’re watching while interacting with other sites and apps “.

Now, what if Google Chrome included the ability to display any type of content in a small window? According to recent findings, after the release of the latest beta version of Chrome, the Picture-in-Picture functionality of the famous browser should soon improve and extend beyond video.

Google Chrome: the Picture-in-Picture mode evolves

Our colleagues from The Verge were able to spot an interesting change in the latest Chrome 111 beta. Rather than just playing videos, Chrome’s picture-in-picture mode should soon expand to any type of web content. Thus, it will be possible to watch something other than videos from a separate window. With the new API, Chrome will also improve picture-in-picture video streaming. To do this, it will now offer a personalized user interface that will allow you, for example, to display like/dislike buttons, or to access call controls during your videoconferences, all from a floating window.

Called Document Picture-in-Picture, this function should not see the light of day before the publication of Chrome 115, which should logically take place next June. In the meantime, there’s almost no doubt that this new version of Chrome’s picture-in-picture mode could quickly become indispensable to some browser customers. And you, are you charmed by this feature?
