An SMS sent by an alleged Chronopost deliveryman has been circulating in France for several days. Be careful, as this is an attempted scam.

Spam emails or SMS usurping Chronopost are not new, of course, but hackers have launched a new spam campaign this week in France. On Tuesday, we received a text message from a so-called delivery man. You may have received it too. The message encourages you to click on a link which, of course, will allow hackers to extract money from you.

A Chronopost scam which, once again, aims to steal money from you

Hello, I was unable to deposit your package in the mailbox, please select a slot on… ”, and there, the pirate URL appears. Here therefore, the message would allegedly be sent by a Chronopost delivery person or a postman, in order to help you schedule a new delivery slot, to collect your package.

Obviously, this is all false. The sole purpose of the message is to push its recipient to click on the link it contains, which then redirects them to a fake Chronopost site which will be used to recover your banking data and your money.

Pirates always show imagination. First, they use a cell phone number (06 47 90 37 79), which can be identified as spam by your phone, but this is not always obvious, depending on the model. A person with little awareness of cyber risks and phishing can fall into the trap.

Several clues can put the flea in the ear

Then, the URL associated with the SMS uses keywords commonly used by the delivery company of the La Poste group, namely “Chronopost”, as its name indicates; “pickup”, in reference to the service provider’s famous partner relays, and “tracking”, for tracking packages. If you see the URL chronopost.pickup-suivi.com, do not click on it.

According to other testimonies that we have been able to collect, and this was the case for us too, the SMS is generally sent early in the morning, namely between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. That’s who can most easily tip you off. We generally do not deliver in the middle of the night or early in the morning.

If you have the slightest doubt, you can also go to the government platform www.cybermalveillance.gouv.fr, which specializes in processing fraudulent reports of this type. Finally, above all, do not call back the sender number of the SMS, it could be overcharged.
