Cilas: Lumibird is moving towards a more technological, rather than capital-intensive, partnership

(AOF) – Lumibird reacted to information from La Lettre according to which the laser specialist is in discussions to resell its 37% in Cilas to the tandem of shareholders Safran and MBDA. On the stock market, Lumibird shares fell 0.76% to 13 euros. In a press release, the company indicated that it was “directing its discussions on the Cilas file towards a partnership that is more technological and industrial than capitalistic”.

The laser technology specialist added that “its investment plan in Cilas does not extend beyond a stake of 37% of the capital, without significant influence”.

Lumibird acquired this stake in 2021 from Areva for 7.5 million euros.

“In 2022, ArianeGroup resold its shares in Cilas to the Safran and MBDA duo which today holds 63% of the capital. The amount of the transaction would be between 50 million euros and 100 million euros, thus valuing Cilas in 2022 at 80/160 million euros,” explains Invest Securities. The analyst deduces that the sale of Lumibird’s shares could bring him between 30 and 60 million euros.

The interest in a rapprochement remains undiminished, and has even strengthened this year. In this context, the group’s desire is to build an agreement with Cilas, where Lumibird will contribute very actively to the development of a sovereign defense sector,” the company concluded.
