Cillian Murphy is set to reprise his role as Tommy Shelby in a new Peaky Blinders film.

According to “Peaky Blinders” maker Steven Knight, filming on the planned film will begin this fall – with Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby.
In June 2022, the sixth and final season of the acclaimed series “Peaky Blinders” appeared on Netflix. Now the newly crowned Oscar winner Cillian Murphy (47) will soon return to the dark world of the eponymous gang from Birmingham as gangster boss Tommy Shelby. As Steven Knight (64), the creator of the series, revealed at the premiere of his new BBC series “The Town”, filming for the planned “Peaky Blinders” film will begin this autumn. This is reported by the Birmingham World.
“We’re shooting the film in September”
There’s no doubt in Knight’s mind that Murphy will take on the role of head of the Shelby family again in the film sequel: “He’ll definitely be back,” he said. “We are shooting the film in Digbeth in September [England].”
The first season of the series about the “Peaky Blinders” and the Shelby family premiered in 2013. The series, which takes place in the 1920s and 1930s, quickly gained many fans thanks to its dark look and the matching soundtrack (especially “Red Right Hand” by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds). The special style of the gang members with flat caps, suits, coats and pocket watches was also celebrated. From February to April 2022, the final season was shown on the BBC before it was available on Netflix.
Steven Knight already had in October 2021 announced a film about Tommy Shelby’s gang, which is supposed to follow the story of the series. In February 2022 he also announced further offshoots. “Depending on how the structure of the film develops, we will then initiate some spin-offs that will be part of the same universe,” said the “Peaky Blinders” creator.

In 2022, Cillian Murphy had already commented positively on the idea. He is very interested in bringing Tommy Shelby back to life, he confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. He hopes that there will be another film: “I think there is more life in the old dog,” said the Irish actor about his series character.
