CINEMA: Pac-Man, an official live-action film that no one would have imagined

At the moment more than ever, adaptations of video game franchises are multiplying, to give life to live-action films, series for SVOD and sometimes even animation. The latest to add to the list is quite surprising, because if it’s an industry-historical license, that wouldn’t necessarily be the most easily adaptable.

Yes, Bandai Namco Entertainment gave the green light to a movie live-action Pac-Man. The project should therefore be very different from animated series Pac man and Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, but we do not yet know exactly how the actors and the famous round and yellow character will interact or in what context. The feature film will be based on an original idea by Chuck Williams (Sonic the Hedgehog)who will produce alongside Tim Kwok through his company Lightbeam Entertainmentbut the boat will be steered by Wayfarer Studios and producers Justin Baldoni, Manu Gargi and Andrew Calof, to whom we owe clouds and Five Feets Apart.

The film Pac man is only in pre-production, which means that writing its script and finding its cast could take time, or even that the project could be canceled if it drags on too long, which sometimes happens. But if such a feature film ends up seeing the light of day, in theaters or in VOD, we are very curious to know what it will look like. Hope it’s better than pixelsthe forgettable action-comedy where video game heroes come to life in the real world (and available on Blu-ray from €8.87 on Amazon.co.uk).
