A few years ago, Reem Kherici shared her life with a Maine coon cat called Diva, the main source of inspiration for the director.

For Reem Kherici, Dog and Cat represents a colossal challenge in the sense that the filmmaker wanted to live up to the dream that she was allowed to realize. She specifies: “You know, we made this film with a big budget but 10 times smaller than American productions of the genre. Where there are 300 3D animators in the United States, there were 30 of us. On the set, I didn’t have 80 days but 34 to put everything together“.

For the role of Brandt, the villain of the story, Reem Kherici chose an actor she knows well in the person of Philippe Lacheau: “He has been my partner for 20 years and he also participated in the writing of Chien et chat. I found that offering him a counter-job was more amusing than the more expected, more conventional first role.“
