Cinema Quiz: impossible to achieve Perfect on Lethal Weapon!


This is one of the most famous buddy movie duos. Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh will be on TF1 this evening in the first part of their adventures. The opportunity to give them a quiz with 9 questions on the film “Lethal Weapon”!

In 1987, Richard Donner (Superman, The Goonies) initiated the first part of what would become the benchmark for the American buddy movie, Lethal Weapon. Headlined by the iconic duo Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, the success of the film would give rise to four sequels, all from the same director.

A fifth part is also in preparation, this time with Mel Gibson himself directing, Richard Donner having unfortunately left us in 2021.

Danny Glover and his sidekick Mel Gibson, the two heroes of Lethal Weapon, underwent intensive two-month preparation with stuntman Bobby Bass. The latter used his military experience to enrich the character of Riggs. Both actors also had the opportunity to spend time in the field with Los Angeles Police officers.

What if Spock and McLane had been in the credits?

Leonard Nimoy, famous for having played the character of Spock in the Star Trek series, was approached to direct Lethal Weapon, but he could not free himself, working at the time on the production of the film Three Men and a Baby . It was ultimately Richard Donner who was chosen to direct Lethal Weapon.

As for the main role of Martin Riggs, played by Mel Gibson, it could have gone to Bruce Willis, initially anticipated. Willis will not regret the missed opportunity, since he will know glory a year later with Crystal Trap, first part of the Die Hard saga. He even worked under the direction of Richard Donner in 2006 for the thriller 16 Blocks.

From Martin Riggs to Hamlet

It was the vision of Lethal Weapon that prompted Franco Zeffirelli to hire Mel Gibson to play his Hamlet in 1990. The Italian filmmaker was particularly impressed by Gibson’s performance when it came to playing the suicidal Martin Riggs.
