This June 21, like every year since 1982, the whole of France will celebrate music! And on this particular day, we offer you a quiz where you will have to try to remember in which films you could see these nine guitarists.
Some films have been able to highlight guitarists at the center of their script, whether through biopics to tell us about the lives of famous musicians, or with fictional stories.
In 2005, for example, it was director James Mangold who staged the life of country singer-guitarist Johnny Cash and his partner June Carter in Walk the Line, with Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role and Reese Witherspoon in that of his wife.
A film that showed us the meteoric rise of this American star, who was almost able to compete at times with the aura of an Elvis Presley, without ignoring the star’s addictions such as alcohol or drugs. Note, the Oscar for Best Actress received by Reese Witherspoon, as well as the nomination of Joaquin Phoenix (who will get it fifteen years later for Joker).
In the fictional register, it was Clint Eastwood who offered us in 1982 in Honkytonk Man the moving story of another country singer-guitarist: Red Stovall. A musician who feels that his career is failing to take off, travels across the United States to audition in Nashville, Tennessee.
He will be accompanied on this journey by his nephew Whit (played by his own son Kyle Eastwood, then thirteen years old) and by his grandfather, and will meet Marlène on the way, a young artist who also wishes to pursue a career in the song. Unfortunately, the recording project seems to be in jeopardy when Red learns that he has tuberculosis.
