Many have therefore forgotten the trailer unveiled at the beginning of 2020, so Paramount Pictures quickdraw a new trailer to get us back in the mood. We find there the young Gruaged 12, who will apply to become the new leader of Vicious 6a group of villains who will quickly discover that this ringworm has a potential much greater than theirs. Pursued by his adversaries, Gru will have to count on the support of its minions and their learning of kung fu to get by…

This summer, the greatest animated film franchise in history goes back to its origins and tells us how the most famous of super villains formed with his now famous Minions, the most despicable of teams to face the most relentless group of criminals in: MINIONS 2: ONCE UPON A TIME GRU.

Long before becoming the Master of Evil, GRU (Steve Carell, Oscar-nominated) was just a 12-year-old suburbanite in the 1970s, who laboriously hatched from the back of his cellar the plan that would allow him to take the control of the world. Without real success. But when his path crosses that of the Minions, including Kevin, Stuart, Bob and Otto – a new Minion sporting magnificent braces and a desperate need to please – this unexpected family will then generate treasure troves of ingenuity allowing them to build their first lair, experiment with their first weapons, and launch their first mission.

When the infamous group of super-villains, the Vicious 6, fire their leader, living martial arts legend Wild Knuckles (Oscar winner Alan Arkin), Gru, then their biggest fan, auditions to join the team. . The Vicious 6 are unimpressed with this ambition-devoured half-portion, until they angrily realize that he is in fact vastly superior to them. Suddenly becoming the sworn enemy of the gratin of criminals, Gru is forced to flee. The Minions will then try to train in Kung Fu in order to help him, and thus give him the opportunity to discover that even super villains sometimes need friends.

MINIONS 2: ONCE UPON A TIME GRU, in addition to its legendary subversive humor, offers the most impressive action scenes the franchise has ever seen, as well as an impressive new cast. The members of the Vicious 6 are notably interpreted by Taraji P. Hanson in the role of Belle Bombe, their leader as charismatic as she is sure of herself with her disco belt ending in a disco ball which also serves as a terrible flail, Jean-Claude Van Damme in that of Jean Clawed, the nihilist armed (literally) with giant cybernetic claws, while Lucy Lawless will put on the chasuble of Nonnechaku, who hides his dangerous nunchaku under his pious exterior, Dolph Lundgren that of the roller skate champion Swede, Svengeance, king of low blows with the terrible rotating spikes of his wheels, while Danny Trejo will be Fists of Death, whose giant metal hands are as dangerous for others as they are embarrassing for him.

We will also be able to discover Russel Brand as the young Professor Nefario, the mad scientist still in the making, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Chow, an acupuncturist endowed with improbable Kung Fu talents, and Julie Andrews, who plays Gru’s horribly self-centered mother. .

Led by the creators of the franchise, MINIONS 2: ONCE UPON A TIME GRU is produced by visionary creator and President of Illumination Chris Meledandri, along with longtime collaborators Janet Healey and Chris Renaud. The film is directed by Kyle Balda, who previously directed DESPICABLE ME 3 and MINIONS, co-directed by Brad Ableson (THE SIMPSONS) and Jonathan De Val (LIKE BEASTS 1 and 2) and we can hear the cult voice by Pierre Coffin who plays the Minions and a killer. The film’s ultra-70s soundtrack is by Grammy-winning music legend Jack Antonoff.
