Cities Skylines 2 still disappoints because of this expected feature

Cities Skylines 2 requires patience

Indeed, Cities: Skylines 2 fans will have to wait a few more months before being able to use the official modding tools. Developer Colossal Order has revealed that the Game Editor, an all-in-one tool for modding, will not be ready for release before then.

Paradox Interactive, the publisher of Cities: Skylines 2, had already announced that this Editor would not be available when the game launched. But at the time there was no question of waiting that long. According to Mariina Hallikainen, CEO of Colossal Order, the studio plans to integrate maps and modding support from the first version of the Editor. Over time, other modding features found in the first Cities: Skylines, such as asset import, will be added.

Promises of improvements

Hallikainen stressed that the goal is to launch the Editor as quickly as possible, but without setting a specific timetable to avoid making broken promises. At the same time, the team is working on improving performance. Particularly on LODs and GPU, and expect a significant performance improvement. A fourth patch for the game is imminent, after which the focus will shift to larger fixes. Obviously everyone is eager for the situation to change. For the console version of Cities: Skylines 2, scheduled for spring 2024, all planned Editor features will be integrated, with the exception of modding. Too bad, but you also had to suspect it.

Colossal Order has confirmed that Cities Skylines 2’s weekly updates are complete. From now on, updates and patches will arrive at less regular intervals. This change will allow the developer to spend more time building larger and more complex solutions.

As explained, current work concerns improving the performance of LODs (Levels Of Detail) and the GPU. Although geometric LODs are largely automated, many adjustments are required. Colossal Order expects a noticeable performance improvement from these fixes. But emphasizes that there is no quick fix to improve performance all at once
