- Villarreal got going from nowhere at Juventus Turin from the 78th minute and amazed with a 3-0 away win.
- With the overall score of 4:1 in the Champions League, the Spaniards are now in the quarter-finals for the first time since 2009.
- Meanwhile, the “Bianconeri” land the inglorious hat-trick and get stuck in the first knockout round for the third time in a row.
In the second leg in Turin, which had become increasingly complicated, the “yellow submarine” acted on absolute diving station after the change of sides. The pressing hosts, with up to 70 percent possession in this phase, had Villarreal in a stranglehold and seemed to be wearing down the challenger.
The problem of the “old lady” (without national player Denis Zakaria, who was injured in the thigh) against the La Liga seventh: the efforts were unsuccessful. The Italians had created at least three promising chances in the first half – including Dusan Vlahovic’s crossbar.
Even after the change of sides, the sights of Massimiliano Allegri’s team were too imprecise. “Juve” promptly received the receipt for his negligence on the offensive and experienced a Waterloo in the final quarter of an hour that was hardly thought possible.
3 degrees – 3 stitches in Juve’s heart
Out of nowhere and after a VAR verdict, the guests made it 1-0 (78th). Daniele Rugani missed out in the penalty area by lagging behind Francis Coquelin and touching him in the process. Gerard Moreno, who had been substituted on just 4 minutes earlier, converted the foul penalty that was due.
With this surprising lead behind them, the Spaniards completely took over the game, while the opponent fell into a state of shock:
- After a corner, Pau Torres gets the ball and makes it 2-0 (85′).
- Another penalty kick in the 92nd minute, kicked by Arnaut Danjuma, completes the embarrassment for Juventus.
