Clandestine dinners at Pierre-Jean Chalençon: Christophe Leroy, the chef involved, makes his mea culpa

[ad_1]

In his autobiographical book, Christophe Leroy returned to the clandestine dinners organized at Pierre-Jean Chalençon. The chef makes his mea culpa.

He had caused a scandal with this new controversy. As France was swept away by the Covid-19 pandemic, Pierre-Jean Chalençon was accused of having organized clandestine dinners in his palace, with chef Christophe Leroy. The latter had also been sentenced in September 2021 to a two-year suspended prison sentence for concealed work. A regrettable experience for the chef, who wanted to give his version of the facts in a book, entitled A thousand and one lives of a chef, from the mythical white evenings of Saint-Tropez to the ‘clandestine dinners’.

And with hindsight, chef Christophe Leroy agrees that he should have categorically refused to serve during the meals of Pierre-Jean Chalencon : “So certainly, with hindsight, I understand that we should have given up. Bad appreciation of the situation. Obvious mistake. I’m not used to harboring regrets but, there, if I could go back, I I would make a completely different decision.” A mea culpa expected for the one who found himself involved in the controversy of Pierre-Jean Chalençon.

Christophe Leroy: “There was no member of the government”

The chef had even had to deny in public that no member of the government was present during his meals : “The police wanted to know which personalities I had served. I told them I have never served members of the government for the past months, never, never, never. I say it straight in the eye, there is no had no member of the government, no more ministers than secretaries of state or others”. The chief had then tried to clear himself of this affair: “With Pierre-Jean Chalencon, we speak at 5 p.m., March 31. We hesitate to cancel, we should have, it’s a clumsiness. Of course it was not necessary to do this little event, which was a conference, and since I don’t know how to do otherwise, I taste small things”.
