The French actor Claude Brasseur is dead. The "La Boum" star and multiple César award winner was 84 years old.

The acting world mourns Claude Brasseur. The French film great died on Tuesday (December 22nd) at the age of 84. The French radio station RTL quoted Elisabeth Tanner, head of the Time Art agency: Brasseur had "died in peace and quiet, surrounded by his family". There is no connection with the corona virus. At the funeral, Tanner said that the actor would find his final resting place in Paris, next to his father in the Père-Lachaise cemetery.

Brasseur was a stage actor in the 1950s. He got his first major film role in 1956 in the Christmas comedy "Fortunately, he does exist". This was followed by successes with "The Outsiders Gang" (1964) and "An Elephant Is Mighty Mistakes" (1976). The latter production earned him the French César film award for best supporting actor, as did "The Great Show Off". In 1980 Brasseur was awarded the film prize again, this time for best actor in "The Police War". The German audience knows Brasseur primarily as François Beretton from the film "La Boum – Die Fete" (1980) and from its sequel.
