For more than 15 years, Valérie Perrin has lived a perfect romance with Claude Lelouch. A love story instigated by the novelist who deeply marked the famous director.
This Wednesday, January 19 is an important day for Valérie Perrin since she celebrates her 55th birthday. The opportunity to come back to his very first meeting with the famous French director, Claude Lelouch. Married since 2006, the two personalities nevertheless met thanks to a simple letter.
During an interview with the Figaro, published last May, the novelist had unveiled her scheme to get in touch with Claude Lelouch. And as a first contact, Valérie Perrin had sent him a letter. Present in Deauville in 2006, the day of the inauguration of a place in the name of the director, the latter had then indicated to one of her journalist friends to deliver her mail to Claude Lelouch. A nice attention that paid off since the 84-year-old man was very seduced by this initiative.

A first meeting full of pitfalls
Guest on the set of Can’t wait for Sunday in 2020, Claude Lelouch had shared his feelings following the reading of this famous letter. “That day my ego was very flattered, because it was a declaration of love to my cinema“, he had recognized. And to add, not without admiration: “I said to myself : ‘But who writes so well?’ I was blown away by the style.”
Wishing, at all costs, to be able to thank this admirer, Claude Lelouch then set out to find him. Only problem : the novelist had taken care not to disclose any information allowing her to be found. Only her first name, Valerie, was mentioned. But thanks to the chance of life, the latter was finally able to reach her and offer her a meeting in good and due form. “We met over coffee, she had perceived in my films things that no one else had felt or noticed until then“, he confided to Paris Match last December. And to add:We started working on scripts and the miracle happened. Paraphrasing Guitry, I dare say I finally found my widow.”
