climate events impact 2023 net profit

SGAM Macif saw its net profit affected by climatic events in 2023, to 136.4 million euros, with more than 125,000 claims suffered by customers, from storms Ciaran and Domingos to the floods at the end of the year.

This year, the remainder is 300 million euros due to climatic events. The insurers have withdrawn. The insurer remains on the front line and keeps almost all losses for itself, apart from the natural disaster regime, Jean-Philippe Dogneton, general director of SGAM Macif, told AFP.

Since January 1, 2024, SGAM Macif has included Macif SAM, Apivia Macif Mutuelle and Mutavie, bringing together under one name the three businesses of risk insurance, Health-Provision and Finance-savings. This group is itself part of the Ama group alongside Asio mutual, Abeille Assurances, and Ofi Invest.

In this new scope, Macif’s turnover stands at 6.679 billion euros in 2023, according to figures published on Tuesday.

The Ama group, whose results were published on Monday, saw its net profit drop by almost 60% to 50.9 million euros in 2023, a grim year in terms of climate.
