Climate protection and arms deliveries are not a contradiction in terms

EA letter to the editor recently calculated that the Leopard 2 was a “true fossil world climate killer”, and that its delivery to the Ukraine would cross the red line to World War III, “at the end of which we really no longer have to worry about the fight against climate change “. You no longer have to do that in a Russian-dominated Europe: Putin has never worried about the climate and instead is preparing to erase a nation from the European map. And by his own admission he will not be content with that.

The wrong alternative is to either protect the climate or end a war of aggression and annihilation. And it is unfair that the federal and state governments, and especially the Greens, are accused of betraying the climate goals; Russia’s energy war is also ultimately responsible for the extended service life of coal and nuclear power plants. It should also be known that he is unintentionally accelerating the energy transition in Europe, the driving force behind which is the European Greens. At the same time, there is no shortage of reasons to take to the streets to meet the climate targets and ideally to work on them individually. But just as little about standing up for Ukraine’s freedom, which, given the current state of affairs, can only be achieved in this way: create peace with weapons. The old peace movement is dead, long live the new one.
