HyperX takes on the headphone market true-wireless quite a bit late. But the brand could boast of an interesting proposal: the dual Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz connection for uses in which latency is a real issue.
The line of in-ear headphones from HyperX will be enriched with a first pair of true-wireless, the Cloud Mix Buds. These complement the Cloud Earbuds (wired) and Cloud Buds (wireless around the neck). The most interesting point about this new product is undoubtedly its dual Bluetooth 5.2 and 2.4 GHz connectivity.
The headphones can indeed be connected very conventionally in Bluetooth, but are also delivered with a wireless USB-C adapter to limit the harmful effects of latency when they are, for example, used to play or watch a film or a series. In this case, they switch to a 2.4 GHz RF link. Note the presence of a small button on the USB-C dongle to switch from one connection mode to another in one click.
On PC, users can use Ngenuity drivers from HyperX to configure the sound reproduction through an equalizer, or even customize the touch controls. Support for the DTS Headphone X² is provided in this context with a spatial rendering in “7.1” of the sound.
Obviously delivered with a storage and charging case, these headphones can a priori offer a battery life of 10 hours in Bluetooth and 6 hours in 2.4 GHz (at 50% listening volume), respectively increased to 33 hours and 21 hours thanks to the charging case. The case takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to fully charge and the headphones 2 hours, according to the manufacturer. A USB-A to USB-C cable is provided, as well as three pairs of silicone tips of different sizes.
The commercial launch of these earphones is scheduled for June 2022 at a price of €159, but the manufacturer advises that delivery delays may occur given the current situation. Some US sites have already had the opportunity to test these headphones. We will obviously wait to test them ourselves to make a final opinion, but it would seem, as explained for example The Vergethat comfort and practicality of use are not necessarily at the same level as autonomy or sound quality.
