“Clubs must be careful” of their supporters, says Guy Roux after the attack on a player in Bordeaux

What penalty will Bordeaux receive. The Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League is to meet this Monday at midday to decide on the fate which will be awarded to the Girondins after the attack on a player on Friday evening by a supporter during the match against Rodez. After the Ruthénois opened the score on the Girondins lawn, a Bordeaux supporter entered the lawn and jostled the Rodez striker, Lucas Buades, who collapsed on the ground, “concussed” according to the match referee. The latter then interrupted the match definitively. The 1-0 score for Rodez then had several consequences in the standings: the promotion to Ligue 1 of Metz, 2nd, to the detriment of Bordeaux, 3rd; and the relegation of Annecy, 17th, doubled by Rodez, 16th.

The LFP will thus have the fate of several clubs in its hands and its decision will be scrutinized in all corners of France. Will Metz support Le Havre in Ligue 1? Will Annecy be relegated to National alongside Dijon, Nîmes and Niort? Will Rodez be saved or will the match have to be replayed?

“Sports Equity”

After this chaotic and unprecedented situation in the Ligue 2 championship, former Auxerre manager Guy Roux said he was “stunned” by the scene that occurred. According to him, “clubs have to be careful. You have to have people who specialize in security.” An opinion shared by Grégory Schneider who believes that the clubs “are responsible for what happens in the stadium.”

In bad shape, the Girondin club nevertheless intends to “assert all (its) rights, as well as its rights on appeal”, as its president Gerard Lopez announced on Friday evening. Clearly, he intends to ask the authorities to replay the meeting “in the name of sporting fairness”, as described by a source close to the club. The proposal is obviously shared by the Annecy team, which still hopes to maintain itself thanks to a defeat or a draw at Rodez.

“No good solutions”

The slightest penalty point would condemn Bordeaux to stay in Ligue 2, while this historic club in the championship had high hopes of a rise in Ligue 1 to clean up its finances after narrowly avoiding filing for bankruptcy last summer. For Rodez, a match to be replayed would be a disaster scenario, because only a victory could save the club from relegation to National. But for Guy Roux, whatever the decision finally taken, “there are no good solutions”. Because for the former leader of Auxerre, “we will have to choose between several bad solutions. This concerns Annecy, which will depend on it. Whatever solution is taken, it will harm people.”

Since the facts, Lucas Buades, the attacked player, has been the subject according to his club of “heinous threats” on social networks since the stampede, threats which “will not remain without follow-up”. According to the prosecution, Lucas Buades was examined by a forensic doctor who established a one-day incapacity for work (ITT). The player filed a complaint, as did the clubs of Rodez and Bordeaux. The alleged attacker was referred on Sunday with a request for judicial review and will be tried in correctional court in November.
