Jeff Zucker, the longtime boss of American news network CNN, is stepping down over an undisclosed romantic relationship within the company.
In recent years, Jeff Zucker has also become known for his public disputes with ex-US President Donald Trump.
(dpa) The president of the US news channel CNN is resigning because of a relationship within the company with immediate effect. In an internal message, Jeff Zucker reportedly wrote to CNN that he was asked about a consensual relationship on the station as part of an investigation into presenter Chris Cuomo.
“I recognized the relationship that has developed over the past few years. I had to disclose it when it started, but I didn’t,” wrote the 56-year-old. “That was wrong. That’s why I’m resigning today.”
Zucker’s partner is marketing chief Allison Gollust, who remains in her post. Gollust also released a statement and regretted not making the relationship public at the right time. CNN is one of the most influential American and international news channels. Zucker started at the station in January 2013. In recent years he has also received attention because of his public disputes with ex-US President Donald Trump. As a former head of the NBC TV network, Zucker Trump had previously offered a stage for his reality show “The Apprentice”.
