Colas relies on the recycling of bitumen and aggregates to chart its course

REPORT – Bouygues’ public works subsidiary is investing massively in the circular economy.

In Etampes (Essonne)

The mechanical shovel overhangs the pieces of bitumen. She seizes them, places them in a large crusher, then they pass through a screener, where they are sorted so that they can be reused as ballast for roads or to produce concrete. This recycling center belongs to Colas, the road construction subsidiary of Bouygues. Located in Étampes (Essonne), it extends over 20,000 m2. A large part of this area is occupied by the storage area for materials to be recycled. “Each year, we receive 80,000 tonnes of materials, from the demolition of roads or buildings, but also land”explains Cédric Pantel, Île-de-France Director of Colas France.
