Collapsed building in Marseille: the inhabitants of the rue de Tivoli exasperated five months after the tragedy: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

The fear is growing for the residents… After the sudden explosion and the collapse of a four-storey building which had caused the death of eight people rue de Tivoli in the 15th arrondissement of Marseille on April 9, 2023, anger is rising. And for good reason, all the rubble and rubble resulting from this accident were moved to municipal land in the district of the old slaughterhouses, chemin de la Madrague-Ville precisely. This represents several hundred tons of waste. The investigators had made this decision in order to continue their investigations safe. But whereas so far the land was guarded night and day by a guard, according to information from France Blue Provence from September 1, 2023, since mid-June, it would no longer be. However, the town hall told them otherwise. Many curious people therefore go to the scene of the tragedy. According to local residents, some come to search others to loot or even deposit their waste on the spot, reports France Blue.

Disturbing rubble

THE residents nearby of the site have expressed their annoyance to our colleagues from France Blue. “My windows overlook the rubble: stones, leftover furniture, clothes. And above all, since the site is no longer guarded, we see people who come to search and who leave with full vans. Other people come to dump their own rubbish. Everything is open, without any supervision. This morning again, a truck came to dump its waste”, complains a local resident to our colleagues in the public service. “There were deaths in this tragedy and it bothers me that hundreds of tons of rubble are left like this […] it is not normal”, complains another resident of the surroundings to France Blue. After the broadcast of the report by France Blue Provencethe media claims that a construction machine was seen on the site on Friday September 1, 2023 in the morning, a guard would even have returned. After the tragedy, a judicial investigation had been opened by the Marseille public prosecutor’s office against an unnamed person on the counts of homicide and involuntary injury, as announced by the public prosecutor.
