The period is conducive to good resolutions and small gestures to save energy, and the first instinct at home is often not to leave any lights on for nothing. However, it is possible to go further, even if lighting weighs only 10% on average on household electricity bills and comes far behind other expenditure items, such as heating and air conditioning.
Anyway, any energy saving is good to take, and it is therefore not a reason to neglect lighting. If you still have any, replacing incandescent bulbs when they reach the end of their life with LED solutions is the first thing to do. Led bulbs consume less energy, in addition to having a longer lifespan. And when it is possible to vary their brightness, the savings can be even greater. This is what a recent press release from Signify, the company behind the Philips Hue and Wiz solutions, reminds us.
Thus, reducing the brightness of a Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance E27 1100 bulb to 70% would save 51% energy, and the saving could reach 75% by reducing the brightness by half. Consumption can obviously vary depending on the bulbs, but the figures from Signify give at least an idea. And the firm did not stop there.

Variation according to colors
We also learn that using colored lighting can save money. If you like bluish atmospheres, you will be happy to learn that it is the color that consumes the least energy.
Taking as a reference the consumption in watts of this same bulb when it is used at a temperature of 4000 degrees Kelvin, i.e. a neutral white on a scale of 1000 to 12,000, Signify noted a difference of 79%, in favor blue light. Red is also less energy-intensive and reduces consumption by 72%. Next come green, with a savings of 68%, followed by magenta, cyan and yellow with savings of 61%, 59% and 54% respectively.
If you hope to reduce your expenses thanks to this kind of bulbs but are not yet equipped, note all the same that they are quite expensive to buy and that you will therefore need a little time to amortize them. Fortunately, they can work for several years and the arrival of the holidays is a good reason to adopt them. They will kill two birds with one stone, creating festive atmospheres while reducing electricity consumption.
