Customers can do their daily shopping here quickly, easily and cheaply. The store was built using a sustainable approach and does not consume fossil fuels. The store manager Karolien and her team of 10 employees are happy to invite customers to come and discover their new local supermarket.

A modern layout that breathes freshness

The OKay supermarket in Drongen is the 141st OKay store in Belgium and the 23rd in East Flanders. “My team and I are very proud to be able to operate this store and we are curious to hear the reactions of our customers. »

The convenience supermarket is part of the new generation of Colruyt Group’s OKay stores and its modern layout exudes freshness. Karolian: “In the freshmart, the wider aisles make the experience particularly pleasant. The wide assortment of daily fresh fruits and vegetables is well showcased. » The assortment of fresh products is one of the brand’s strengths: fruit and vegetables, dairy products, meat, charcuterie, fish and prepared meals. “In addition, we have a tapas stand located near the freshmart. We offer a wide range of appetizers based on meat, fish and vegetables for a delicious aperitif with friends. »

Fresh bread is delivered every day and employees bake quality pastries and rolls themselves several times a day. All of these treats are beautifully presented in our convenient bakery corner. Karolian: “Our bakery corner is very ergonomic and very easy to use, both for employees and customers. » In the frozen section there are freezers with glass lids. This way, customers can quickly and easily find their favorite products.

Easily accessible

The new OKay store is located on the roundabout between Mariakerksesteenweg and Deinsesteenweg. “Our store is close to Ghent’s inner ring, the industrial area and the motorway entrance. We are on the path of those who go to work or return from it ”, explains Karolien. Three spacious apartments have been built above the store, providing additional accommodation in this up-and-coming area.

The car park has 30 spaces and a charging station for electric cars. Customers who come by bike can use the large bike shed, which is also provided for cargo bikes.

Minimal environmental footprint

Like the other brands of Colruyt Group, OKay attaches great importance to the sustainable construction of its buildings, with as small an environmental footprint as possible. “In the OKay store in Drongen, we do not use fossil fuels”, explains Karolien. “Our cooling system runs on propane, a natural refrigerant that is much better for the environment than chemical alternatives, resulting in a 90% drop in CO emissions2. In addition, residual heat from the installation is recovered to heat the store, which also drastically reduces greenhouse gas emissions. »

The exterior of the store has also been designed with a sustainable approach. The green roof purifies the air and contributes to biodiversity. The facade of the store has been treated with a paint that breaks down harmful substances present in the air thanks to the action of sunlight.
