Next “huge downer” for FC Bayern

Thomas Tuchel is running out of offensive strength before the Champions League second leg against Arsenal FC: Kingsley Coman, FC Bayern Munich’s next attacker, may be seriously injured. Coach Tuchel is “very sad”.

FC Bayern Munich will have to do without the injured Kingsley Coman in the Champions League second leg against Arsenal FC. The offensive player had to be substituted in the 2-0 (0-0) win against 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga with what appeared to be a more serious injury to his right leg.

“Kingsley’s injury is a huge downer,” said coach Thomas Tuchel. “Of course that makes me very sad because I know how hard he has worked and how important he is for us – and then first Serge (Gnabry) is out, then him, and with Leroy (Sané) it’s all up in the air – that “It’s bitter, of course.” Coman had missed large parts of the second half of the season so far due to a torn medial ligament in his knee.

Serge Gnabry has to sit out the quarter-final second leg on Wednesday due to a torn muscle fiber suffered in the 2-2 draw in London. Leroy Sané missed the win against Cologne due to pubic bone problems. The ailing Manuel Neuer also didn’t play. “Three and a half” failures within a week were very bitter, said Tuchel. He didn’t yet have an exact diagnosis for Coman, who was examined at the club premises on Säbener Strasse that evening. “It looked extremely painful on the TV pictures,” said Tuchel.

With a hard-fought home win, secured by Raphaël Guerreiro and Thomas Müller in stoppage time, FC Bayern postponed the championship crowning of the league leaders Bayer Leverkusen by 26 hours. But after being eliminated in the second round of the DFB Cup and presumably missing out on the championship, the Champions League is the last remaining chance for the record champions to win the title.
