Zelensky visits the front in Kharkiv

After the Ukrainians liberated Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region in September 2022, the Russians recently advanced again to within seven kilometers of the city. To get an idea of the situation, President Zelensky is now visiting the front there.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled to the frontline area in the Kharkiv region in eastern Ukraine. “Commanders who defend peaceful life in Ukraine, in the Kharkiv region in the Kupyansk sector are present here,” Zelensky said in a command post, according to a statement.

The President recalled the losses suffered. “Everyone knows that this is the highest price and therefore I ask you to take care of yourself, your comrades, officers, soldiers,” he said. He then awarded awards to several commanders.

The commander of this sector, Colonel-General Olexander Syrsky, and several subordinates informed Zelensky about the situation along the Kupiansk-Lyman defense line. The president was accompanied by Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov, the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak, and his deputy Roman Mashovets.

Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion with Western help for over 21 months. The city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region was liberated from Russian occupation by Ukrainian troops at the beginning of September last year.

Recently, however, the Russian army was able to gain territory there again. The front line now runs almost seven kilometers from the city again.
