Toyota is working intensively on an electric variant of the well-known Hilux pickup. In view of the competition from Telsa and Isuzu, they now want to push the envelope.
The Toyota Hilux is one of the world’s best-selling pickup models and is often used as the basis for off-road motorhomes in this country. But the versatile off-road vehicle is only available as a combustion engine.
At Isuzu, a strong competitor to Toyota, especially in its home country of Japan, they have apparently already made further progress. An all-electric Isuzu D-Max is set to be unveiled at the Bangkok International Auto Show next month.
Apparently taking this announcement as an opportunity, Noriaki Kamashita, Toyota’s regional boss in Thailand, gives an update on the plans for a purely electric Hilux. And these plans are surprising. As the US portal Electrek reports, the new E-Hilux is scheduled to hit the streets at the end of 2025 – at least in Thailand.
As a pioneer of hybrid technology and driver of hydrogen-powered cars, Toyota has to accept the accusation of having missed the turnaround in electric cars.
When and whether the electric Toyota Hilux will come to Germany is still unknown. Likewise, little key technical data has been leaked so far.
